EMPOWER BY DESIGN

My name is Shannon and I am the creator of the designs you have seen on this blog. I decided to embark on this journey sharing my talent with the world and to hopefully inspire others to find their inner designer and go for it.  It is my hope that others will feel as I do about design once reading my stories and seeing the pictures posted.  I believe that design keeps me focused and grounded. It motivates me to achieve all of my endeavors no matter how out of reach they may seem.

Many people have told me that I am in the wrong business. That I should pursue interior design and do this for a living. The thing is I don't want to do this for people that have money and want to spend it on me as some sort of service. I want to do this for people that feel they can't do this themselves. For people that want better but don't know how to get there.

 I've dreamt of one day designing for those that are less fortunate and need to feel uplifted when they wake up each morning. It would fulfill my soul to decorate a group home for kids, a police headquarters that houses the men and women who risk their lives each and every day for everyday people (like my beloved husband), a school in a poverty stricken neighborhood that is the only safe haven some kids have. Living in today's day in age as a teacher sometimes feels scary. All of the school shootings that we see in the news never existed when I was growing up. I often think about the students and teachers that have to go back to the school where they witnessed lives lost. I wish that I would be able to go in to these schools and create a new look for the students and staff. I know that decorating a space like this would never change what happened but it may help make the healing process a little easier for them.

Design is an amazing gift that many people have never been able to experience. You see every time I decorate a room it instantly changes my life. It makes me recognize the potential I possess. It teaches me that my visions can come to fruition. It is so easy for people that are well off to hire a painter and designer to do the work, but what about the people that can't afford these luxuries? What about the people that watch these decorating shows on tv and feel like these high class designs are unattainable for them because they are barely making ends meet. The greatest gift in the world is the gift of helping others recognize their own potential. I pray that one day I will have the opportunity to pursue these dreams of helping and empowering others through my designs. Until then I will keep dreaming and decorating one room at a time.
