PRETTY IN PINK...
Since she is our last baby I wanted to create the most sweetest little girls room I could think of. I first painted vertical 12 inch stripes in 2 different shades of pink throughout the room. Painting stripes is tedious work but so worth it once it is done. It took me 2 days to paint, draw and tape off and repaint the stripes. My husband videoed me at 2 o'clock in the morning painting the stripes onto the wall. He pleaded with me to stop and go to bed but I wouldn't stop until it was finished. When I paint rooms I try to work late at night when my girls are asleep or on days when I have the day off from work and they have school or daycare. It is really hard to paint rooms when my kids are home. It takes a lot of time to do and I feel guilty not spending time with them if I did it when they were home. My husband took video so that when Liv is a teenager and has attitude we can show her how I labored away at 2am instead of sleeping just so she can have a pretty space all her own. I found sweet pink bedding perfect for a princess. I offset the bedding with a white throw pillow and blanket.
Over her dresser is a collage of family photos so she can be reminded of the people that love her most. In the corner of her room is a bookshelf that I refurbished. Working at a school many hidden treasures such as old bookshelves and chalk boards often get tossed into the garbage. I managed to pull this bookshelf out of the dumpster and took it home. I painted it pink and covered the inside with some left over pink damask wallpaper that I had left over from another project. It added a little dimension to the piece. Pink photo frames, books and some stuffed animals were used to fill in the piece.
In the opposite corner stands a smaller bookshelf that I also painted pink. This bookshelf belonged to my late great aunt. When she passed away I took a few pieces of furniture so that each of my girls could have a piece of her with them. My aunt Helen longed to have children of her own when she was alive. Unfortunately her and her husband were unable to have children of their own. My great aunt passed away a few months shy of turning 100. She got to meet two of my girls and even though her memory was fading she always smiled when she saw them or heard their voices. I knew that she would want the girls to have a special piece of furniture so they could always remember her so I took this bookshelf home along with a few other items sanded it down and painted it. Small mementos were placed on each shelf as reminders of sweet moments in our babies life.
Next to the bed lies two pink metal night stands which house pink tooled lamps with pink heart pull chains. I layered pink on pink with the curtain panels. All in all it is a sweet room for a sweet girl...my Liv!
